Black Friday ads cost more to show, so every impression has to work harder. The brands that win in Black Friday week will have their creative built, tested and scheduled by mid-November. Here are the six ads to make, and when to run each one.
Why creative matters more in Black Friday week.
In Black Friday week 2025, Meta's cost per 1,000 impressions rose about 45% against the autumn, according to measurement company Billy Grace. You pay more for every person who sees your ad.
You cannot control that price. You can control how many of those people stop, click and buy. That is the creative's job.
The feed fills up with "up to 50% off" in the same red and black. An ad that looks like all the others gets scrolled past, however good the offer.
The six ads to make.
| Ad | What it is | When it runs |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Offer-first static | The product and the offer, readable in one second | Black Friday week |
| 2. Short product video | 6 to 15 seconds, vertical, offer in the first 2 seconds | Warm-up and Black Friday week |
| 3. Real person on camera | A customer, creator or founder using the product | Warm-up and Black Friday week |
| 4. Bundle or gift guide | A carousel of products grouped by price or person | Black Friday week into December |
| 5. Last-chance version | Your best ad with an end date added | Cyber Monday |
| 6. Gifting version | Your best ad with last delivery dates | December |
1. Offer-first static. Show the product and the offer, large, with almost no other words. If someone cannot read it in one second, it has too much on it.
2. Short product video. Put the product and the offer in the first two seconds, before people scroll on. Add captions, because many people watch with the sound off.
3. A real person on camera. A customer, a creator or the founder using the product. It looks like the content around it, which is why people stop.
4. Bundle or gift guide. A carousel grouping products by price or by person: under £50, for him, for runners. It helps people who are shopping for someone else and do not know where to start.
5. Last-chance version. Take your best-performing ad and add the end date. Run it on Cyber Monday, 30 November.
6. Gifting version. The same best ad, now leading with your last delivery date for Christmas. Run it from 1 December.
Make each one in three shapes.
- 9:16, vertical full screen. For Stories and Reels.
- 4:5, tall. For the Facebook and Instagram feeds.
- 1:1, square. A fallback that works almost everywhere.
Keep the offer and the product inside the middle of the frame, so nothing important gets cropped.
Start with the content you already have.
The best Black Friday creative is often already on your phone. You do not need a new shoot. You need your best content cut so the offer shows in the first two seconds.
SICK!, the merchandise brand of rider and YouTuber Fabio Wibmer, is the clearest example. Its campaigns ran on the social and YouTube content it already had, timed around product drops and Black Friday promotions.
From 3 November to 9 December 2024, Meta returned 24.32× on €2.8K of spend. Google returned 85.43× on €1.8K. A fanbase that big is not typical, but the method travels.
NINEYARD works the same way. Its campaigns use the brand's own product videos, monthly drops and athletes.
When to make and swap each ad.
- By 31 October: build all six, in all three shapes.
- 1 to 22 November: run ads 1 to 3 at low budgets. Keep the ones people click and buy from.
- 23 to 29 November: put budget behind the winners. Add the bundle carousel.
- 30 November: switch to the last-chance version.
- 1 December onwards: switch to the gifting version until your last order date.
Schedule the swaps in advance. Making new ads in the middle of Black Friday week is how mistakes go live.
What to avoid.
- A generic sale banner. "Black Friday sale" with no product tells people nothing.
- Too many words. The offer, the product and one reason to buy. That is all.
- A price nobody can check. If you show a discount, make sure the landing page shows the same price.
- Ads for products that sell out. Check stock every morning and pause what has gone.
Your Black Friday paid media plan covers the rest of the season: tracking, budgets and the December window.
Common questions.
How many ads do I need for Black Friday? Six ideas in three shapes is a good start. That gives Meta enough to choose from without spreading a small budget too thin.
Should Black Friday ads be video or static? Both. Statics show the offer fastest. Video stops more people in Reels and Stories.
When should Black Friday ads start? Test them from early November. Put most of your budget behind them in Black Friday week itself, 23 to 30 November.
